Manifesting With Your Nervous System: Healing Scarcity, Burnout & Money Wounds As a Therapist

You can know all the business strategies.

You can buy every course, hire every coach, create more content, work longer hours, and still feel like you're never quite safe.

I've been there.

For years, I thought I needed to work harder. Build more. Learn more. Achieve more. But no matter how much my business grew, the feeling underneath never really changed.

There was always this subtle fear that it could all disappear, that I had to keep pushing, or that I wasn't doing enough.

That's why this conversation feels so important.

What you’ll learn about money mindset for therapists

In this podcast episode, I'm joined by intuitive business coach and former trauma therapist Alana Stelly, founder of My Confidence Academy. After transforming her own relationship with money, from paying off $100,000 in debt to building a thriving coaching business, she now helps therapists heal their money wounds, regulate their nervous systems, and build sustainable businesses that support both their purpose and their wellbeing.

Together, we discuss:

  • 1:35 – What is trauma-informed manifestation, and why does it matter for therapists navigating burnout or financial fear?

Why your money mindset starts long before you become a therapist

As Alana explains, your relationship with money didn't begin when you started charging clients.

It started in childhood.

Between the ages of zero and seven, your subconscious mind is developing rapidly.

During those years, you're constantly absorbing messages about safety, success, work, and money without even realizing it.

Maybe you grew up hearing things like:

"Money doesn't grow on trees."

"You have to work hard for every dollar."

"Rich people are greedy."

"We can't afford that."

Or maybe money wasn't discussed at all.

Even if your family had enough financially, growing up around silence, anxiety, or fear about money can still create scarcity in your nervous system.

Those experiences become automatic programs that continue running long after you've become an adult.

That's why two therapists can have identical businesses, earn similar incomes, and respond completely differently to raising their rates or investing in their business.

It's not just about mindset.

It's about what your nervous system has learned is safe.

The hidden money mindset patterns keeping therapists stuck

This shows that financial success doesn't automatically heal scarcity.

Someone can make six figures and still wake up every day terrified of losing everything.

That fear often shows up as:

→ Feeling like you can never slow down.
→ Constantly worrying where your next client will come from.
→ Staying on insurance panels even though you want to transition to private pay.
→ Being afraid to raise your rates.
→ Buying course after course hoping someone else has the answer.
→ Feeling guilty whenever your business starts making more money.

For therapists especially, there can also be a deep belief that helping people means sacrificing yourself.

That charging more somehow makes you less caring.

But that belief often leads to exactly what we're trying to avoid:

Burnout.

Burnout isn't always about working too much

This part of our conversation hit home for me because I recognized myself in it immediately.

Before starting my business, I spent years climbing the corporate ladder until I completely burned out.

Then I left to build my own business.

Seven years later…

I burned out again.

The circumstances had changed, but the pattern hadn't.

I was making more money than ever before, yet I still felt anxious. I kept investing in courses, coaches, and programs because I believed I needed one more thing before I could finally feel secure.

Logically, those investments made sense.

But emotionally, they were often coming from fear instead of alignment.

I realized I had simply recreated the same hustle pattern in a different environment.

That's when I understood something that completely changed how I look at business:

If the nervous system doesn't change, the pattern usually repeats.

Healing your money mindset starts with awareness

One of the first things Alana helps clients do is simply name what's happening.

Instead of thinking:

"I'm bad with money."

Or:

"I just have an abundance problem."

She asks a different question:

What is your nervous system trying to protect you from?

That simple shift creates so much compassion.

Because your nervous system isn't trying to sabotage your business.

It's trying to keep you safe based on experiences you've already lived.

Once you recognize the pattern, you can begin creating new experiences that teach your body a different reality.

Why slowing down often creates more growth

Throughout this conversation, both of us shared moments where everything changed after we stopped forcing.

For Alana, that looked like walking away from the constant noise, trusting her intuition, and following a nudge to travel to Bali.

While she was there, she finally felt calm enough to hear what came next.

It wasn't a complicated marketing funnel.

It wasn't another Instagram strategy.

It was simply an intuitive nudge to make one post inside a Facebook group specifically for therapists trained in Brainspotting.

That single post filled her client roster.

For me, it looked different.

After intentionally slowing down, I made the decision to significantly raise my prices. Not from panic, but from alignment.

It was one of the first business decisions I'd ever made without fear sitting in the driver's seat.

Around that same time, I had a dream at night about arriving on the tenth floor of a beautiful building.

It felt spacious.

Calm.

Like stepping into a completely new chapter.

That dream inspired me to write a newsletter called The 10th Floor.

There was no perfect copywriting framework.
No carefully engineered sales sequence.
Just honest storytelling.

That email directly led someone to book a discovery call because they felt deeply seen by what I'd written.

It reminded me of something I keep coming back to:

Your nervous system can often tell you where to go before your logical mind understands why.

Healing your money mindset requires new experiences, not just new thoughts

Positive affirmations can be helpful.

But lasting change usually asks for something deeper.

Alana teaches what she calls the AAA Framework:

Authenticity

Be radically honest about where you are.

Look at your bank account.
Look at your debt.
Look at your pricing.

Not with shame, but with curiosity.

Then ask yourself:

What story is my money telling?

Alignment

Create beliefs, habits, and nervous system practices that actually support the future you're trying to build.

That might mean learning to feel safe charging more.

It might mean practicing receiving instead of constantly giving.

Or learning that rest doesn't make you lazy.

Attraction

This isn't about sitting back and waiting for money to magically appear.

It's about becoming calm enough to recognize the opportunities, ideas, conversations, and intuitive nudges that are already trying to find you.

Aligned action still matters.

It just feels very different from frantic action.

Raising your therapy rates isn't just about pricing

One of the biggest fears therapists carry is increasing their fees.

But underneath that fear usually isn't money.

It's worthiness.
It's worrying people won't choose you.
It's believing you have to sacrifice yourself to help others.

Alana shared a perspective I loved:

When you raise your rates, you're not only changing your income.

You're changing your capacity.

You create more space.
You reduce burnout.
You bring more presence into every client session.

You build a business that's actually sustainable.

And ultimately, your clients benefit too.

Practical ways to start healing money wounds

If this conversation sparked something for you, Alana shares a few places to begin:

  • Notice your automatic emotional reactions around money without judging them.
  • Get curious about where those beliefs first came from.
  • Practice nervous system regulation through tools like EFT tapping or somatic practices.
  • Pay attention to intuitive nudges that keep resurfacing.
  • Before making your next investment, ask whether it's coming from alignment or fear.
  • Remember that healing your money mindset isn't a one-time breakthrough. It's an ongoing relationship with yourself.

You don't need to earn your worth

One of the biggest reminders I took from this conversation is this:

Money doesn't change who you are.
It amplifies who you already are.

The world doesn't need more burnt-out therapists who feel guilty every time they succeed.

It needs more therapists who are well-rested, well-supported, deeply fulfilled, and financially abundant enough to continue doing the work they love for years to come.

Healing your money mindset isn't about becoming someone else.

It's about letting go of everything that convinced you you weren't already worthy.
